Overhead, fighter jets from the nearby Laughlin Air Force Base roar across the wide-open skies that span acres upon acres of ranch land surrounding town. With warm temperatures throughout the year, it attracts an annual population of Winter Visitors. A draw for year-round recreation is Lake Amistad, a reservoir along the Rio Grande shared with Mexico, and Amistad National Recreation Area.
